Hello,
There is no minimum value of the property to be eligible for residence permit. Property owner, their spouse and children under 18 years old can obtain residence permit on this basis. Once your children would be enrolled in university in Turkey they can obtain student residence permit, which can be extended as long as they would continue education within the country.

Hello, I have had 5 work permits (I am currently on my 5th one). Between my first work permit and my second one I was on a short term touristic residence permit. The break period between my first and second work permits was 11 months. After this I have been on work permits for 4 years. I want to know if this break time when I was on a touristic residence permit makes me ineligible to apply for citizenship at this time. Would I be able to apply for citizenship now, or would I have to wait until I am on a work permit for another year?

Thank you for the help!

Hello,
Time you spent in Turkey on basis of work permit before you obtained touristic residence permit would not be taken under consideration while applying for Turkish citizenship. You must stay in Turkey for 5 years uninterruptedly only on basis of work permit to make application. According to your comment for last 4 years you have been work permit holder, if you would not switch it to residence permit you can submit Turkish citizenship application next year. Days of spend abroad during mentioned 5 years is also taken under consideration. You should not spend out of Turkey more than one year in total within 5 years and more than 6 months in a row.

Hello Kurumsal,
My wife and I are Canadian citizens and we have been permanent residents of Turkey since 2006. I had a work permit until my employment terminated in 2018. I have not worked in Turkey since then and consider myself semi-retired. We wished to remain in Turkey as our children finished high school. Our daughter finished in 2019 and our son will finish in June of this year. We understand that the legislation regarding residence permits changed in January, 2020 and have been told that our residence permits will not be renewed again (expiring in Oct 2021) unless we purchase property in Turkey, which we are willing to do. We are now looking for property. We are considering Çanakkale however we have been told by some that the province is off limits for foreigners to own property due to military/security issues. Others have told us that this is not correct and that foreigners are able to purchase property in that province. A government web site that I checked seems to indicate that it is possible (https://www.yourkeyturkey.gov.tr/index).
I would appreciate your comments and would consider formally engaging your company if you think you could provide assistance.
Thanks and regards,

Hello,
New regulations valid from January 2020 regarding renewal of short term residence permit obtained for purpose of tourism are not applying to Canadian citizens. Currently you are eligible for extension of your residence permit every year for as long as you meet all the criteria. In case you consider purchasing property in Turkey for residential purposes or in case there would be any new regulations regarding residence permit for Canadian nationals you, your spouse and children under 18 years old can obtain residence permit on this basis. Your children above 18 years old can not benefit from your property ownership in regards to residence permit application. However, as you mentioned, foreigners are not allowed to buy property in Çanakkale, if you decide on buying a house in Turkey you should consider another province.

Hi, I was wondering if my father wants to register his apartment in turkey to me, his daughter. What do we need to do and how can we do this?
We live in Sweden, is it possible to do all the papers from Sweden or do we need to go to turkey? And If so, can my father go by himself or do I need to go with him? And what kind of documents do we need.

Man thanks for help in these matter!

Hello,
As a foreigner your father can only register the apartment by getting through the same procedures in Land Registry Office during Title Deed transfer as during property purchase. It means the valuation report of the property must be prepared before the transfer, your passport translation and biometric picture must be provided to Land Registry office along with required application form to obtain Title Deed in your name. Title Deed fee in amount of 4% of value of the property also must be paid to register the apartment in your name. If you would not be present in Turkey for Title Deed transfer process you must provide someone within the country with adequate Power of Attorney to get through required procedures on your behalf.

Hi, I just read your blog about student work permits. In the blog it is said that after the first year of undergraduate degree, international students can apply for a work permit and work upto 30 hours a week.

What I am interested to know is whether international students who want to freelance or earn money via other online mediums need a work permit or not? Also, does the first year include the language preparation year, or does it mean the first year of the program in which they are admitted?

Hello,
Currently work permit can be only granted to students of graduate programs under condition that they were not receiving state scholarship during Bachelor’s degree in Turkey. Students working as freelancers and receiving their income from abroad do not need to obtain work permit. Work permit must be only obtained if foreigner is employed by a company in Turkey.

Hello, In order to reenter Turkey you must either obtain a visa or if you find a new employer who applies for new work permit through Turkish consulate in your country. Once the work permit application will be approved you can reenter Turkey on basis of work visa.

Good Afternoon,

I am a British Citizen, residing in Turkey since 2012 with less than 180 days outside of the country since this time. Throughout my time living in Turkey I have had residency permits and work permits. I also have 2 children (18 months & 3 years old) both born in Turkey who have dual UK/Turkish nationality and both have the same father who is a Turkish national. I am not yet married to the father but we are living together and plan to marry this year. We live in Fethiye, Mugla.

I would like to know how to apply for citizenship. Are you able to offer this service?

I have been researching online and heard various reports as to the requirements. Perhaps they have changed over time. But I was under the understanding that providing you have resided continuously in Turkey for at least 5 years with less than 180 days outside the country, you are eligible to apply without being married or owning property or business. I hope this is correct.
I also have read that having Turkish born children works in your favour as well.

If this is something you can assist with I’d be most grateful. I’d also be interested to learn about the costs involved and documents and other requirements needed.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Hello,
Foreigners, who are staying in Turkey uninterruptedly for five years on basis of work permit or residence permit for property owners can be eligible for Turkish Citizenship. If for last 5 years you were residing in Turkey as a work permit holder only you can submit the application. Otherwise, after being married to a Turkish citizen for three years and residing in Turkey with family residence permit you can also be eligible for Turkish citizenship on this basis. Short term residence permit obtained for purpose of tourism does not give foreigners a right to apply for Turkish citizenship.

Hey my name is Ahmed and I am planning to move to Turkey with my family. The route that I am going to employ is the one that involves buying a property in Turkey and then applying for short term residence permit. I have some questions related to that process:

Q1: After buying a property in Turkey, will my whole family (wife and kids) be eligible to apply for short term residence permit or will it be just me?
Q2: After getting a residence permit, how do families sustain in Turkey? Do they get jobs and get work permits? If they do then what are the possible job opportunities for people who are educated in Pakistan and how difficult is it for them to acquire work permits?
Q3: Is medical and education free for people with residence permits in Turkey?
Q4: Lastly, after getting a residence permit and possibly a work permit too, what is the path to Turkish Citizenship.

I hope all my queries are sufficiently clear to you. Looking forward to your cooperation.

Thank you.

Hi,
I would like to ask about the possibility to change the reason of my staying in Turkey.
The thing is, that I have a short term residence permit (for three months), which will expire next October.
I am planning to get a Turkish language course for 1 year.
Is it possible to get a student residence permit while I am here in Turkey? Or I have to leave Turkey and apply for a student visa and come back.
Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your quick and informative reply.
I would like to ask you about the steps that I have to follow, to get student permit, ( by enrolling in a language course).
Also, I would like to inquire about providing this service by your corporation.
Do you provide this service? And how much it will cost?
Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Hello,
Thank you for your comment.

You can apply for residence permit for language course purposes without leaving Turkey but there is no guarantee that the permit would be granted. Student residence permit is given to university or hisghschool students but not always to foreigners attending language courses.

Hello,

Application process for short term residence permit for language course purposes are the same as for touristic purposes. The only difference is that you need to present document from language school as a proof of your reason to stay in Turkey. We do not provide services regarding this kind of application.

Hello,

I came to Turkey two months ago for the purpose to study Turkish. When my 90 days are over, October, I will apply for the short-term residence permit for foreigners who came to Turkey to attend Turkish language course.

I have heard that conditions for another kind of short-term permit – residence permit for tourist purposes – changed and a lot of applicants got rejected.

I would like to ask you if these changes are relevant only to the tourist residence permit, or if other kinds of residence permits, such as the one for Turkish language course, changed as well.

Thank you!

Dear Zuzana,
Thank you for your comment.

Changes applies to residence permit for language course purposes in the same way as to touristic one. Even if you can present all of the required documents, there is no guarantee that the permit would be granted.

Hello,

thank you very much for your reply.

As I understood, all these changes are relevant only to Istanbul. So it means that in other cities the conditions for applying are the same as they were before?

Thank you!

Hi, I am 71 years old and my wife 65 years old, both retired, want to buy an apartment in Kusadasi, then apply for a Turkish residence card.
knowing that the application for residence card requires health insurance, how should I do, the insurer does not sell insurance beyond 65 years. ?
second question: for 65 years old, the amount of 685 TL is the price of one month of insurance or the price of one year of insurance? Thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for your comment.

For foreigners who are over 65 years old health insurance is not required for residence permit application. Some of the companies do not provide this kind of insurance as it is optional. We do not know which company’s offer you mentioned but 685 TL should be price for one year policy. We can provide you with health insurance policy for foreigners over 65 years old. I will retire early (44 years old) and considering buying an apartment in Istambul, but I would like to rent for 1 or 2 years before purchasing so I can scout the areas and choose the one that I like the most. Can I get a residence easily? Can I rent without residence? Should I get a visa?

Hello,
Thank you for your comment.

Resident permit is mostly not being granted in İstanbul basing on rental contract anymore. After you purchase a property, you can easily obtain residence permit which will be also possible to be extended in the future. You can rent an appartment without having residence permit but most probably residence permit would not be granted as long as you are not property owner in Turkey.

Hello,
Thank you for your comment.

As a foreigner you can only apply for family residence permit after you stay in Turkey with work permit for at least a year. Otherwise all members of your family must apply independently. But as you are a property owner there should be no problem to extend your permits.

Im a a US citizen and have been married to a Turkish citizen for 17 years. We have an apartment in Turkey since 2005 and decided to apply for citizenship and move to Turkey. We were shocked to be flat out denied as our papers were in order. Would I still qualify for a family residence permit?

Work permit application can not be submitted basing on touristic visa. Touristic residence permit application is possible in cities other than Istanbul but there is no guarantee about the result of the application. We do not provide services regarding touristic residence permit application.

Hello,
Thank you for your comment.

Because of changes in the application procedures, you should purchase a property in Turkey in order to obtain residence permit for you and your family. This kind of residence permit is also possible to be extended and we provide services regarding this kind of application. You should have non criminal record and original bank statements from your home country to apply for residence permit.

Hello. I started working in a school, and I’m waiting for my working visa. I just gave my university degree, passport and certificate. They said they will translate it and send it to the Ministry of Education to check it first. However, still waiting. My question is: Will they first apply for residence permit for 6 months (with the help of the school) and then apply for work permit? I know I need to have a residence permit before getting work permit.

Hello,
Thank you for your comment.

Receiving approval from Ministry of Education is usually a long procedure and can last up to 2-3 months. You are not supposed to work in Turkey until you receive your work permit card. After your documents will be approved by the Ministry, your employer can apply for work permit within Turkey if you have residence permit valid for at least 6 months. Residence permit application lasts up to 3-4 months and there is no guarantee that the document would be granted. Otherwise work permit application can be also done via Turkish Consulate in your home country while you would be there. Application would take around 1 month and when it will be approved, you will receive work visa to come back to Turkey and start working.
