How is the Open Education Process for Foreigners in Turkey?

Thanks to the important investments for higher education fields in Turkey, the country became an important center for foreign students recently. In addition to the interest of foreign students in undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs, there has also been an increase in the quotas provided to foreign students. Mostly Asian and African students prefer Turkey for education. Today, practically’s universities and colleges providing education in foreign languages in all geographical regions of Turkey. Education for Foreign Students in Turkey

As a rule, if a foreign student want to apply for an undergraduate, associate degree, master’s, doctorate or open education program, they must have a valid student residence permit in Turkey. Open Education Application in Turkey

Foreigners can apply for open education programs in Turkey with their Certificate of Equivalence from the National Education Directorates or Consulates after graduating from overseas high schools and equivalent schools. For open education faculties, foreign students don’t have to join YÖS exam in Turkey. Foreign students who have graduated from a high school or equivalent school in their own country can register directly to open education faculties by obtaining a valid equivalence certificate.  While students enrolled in open education faculties continue their education remotely, they are subjected to exams, including two midterm and final exams, from the courses they take. Graduates of open education faculties can study in the same departments as formal education students and their diplomas are accepted internationally. The only difference is that “Open Education Faculty” is specified in the faculty part of their diplomas.

Which Departments can you have Open Education in Turkey?

Eskişehir Anadolu University and Erzurum Atatürk University are the leading universities that have open education faculties in Turkey. In these universities, which have a wide range of both undergraduate and associate degree programs, you have the chance to graduate in 4 or 8 terms according to the departments you choose. As a basic rule in Turkey two year’s training period in associate degree programs, the period for undergraduate programs is 4 years. It should also be noted that the master’s and doctorate in open faculty can not be educated in Turkey. While there are thesis and non-thesis programs in master’s education, the doctorate program is implemented as formal education.
